Hall Wines Has Memorable Signage

Anyone who reads my blogs knows that I am obsessed with signage. I believe superb signage shows thoughtfulness, attention to detail, respect, creativity and regard for specific touch points. It conveys an underlying truth about how much a business cares. In so many cases, signage is simply an afterthought, a necessary evil in order to relay directions and impart information.

However, HOW that is done can make the difference between an average experience and a memorable one. It can also make a difference in compliance.

I recently worked with the staff at Hall Wines in The Napa Valley. Hall has a stunning sculpture garden and many interesting features that make the new winery a treasured place to visit. Every artwork on the property grounds is marked with an amusing sign. The signs Hall has designed relay the pertinent information as well as whimsical instructions. A great example of this point of view is this playful sign explaining not to climb on the camel as opposed to the more mundane admonition of “Do Not Touch.”

I love the sign for the Ocean View Fountain when an ocean is nowhere to be seen. It cracks me up and invites me to sit for a while staring at the vineyard view. Here are a few more examples:

The thought that went into creating such clever signage at Hall sets the tone for the winery experience—fun, engaging, personalized and memorable.

Take a look at your signage. Is it inviting, distinct and noteworthy or common, boring and routine?

P.S. The folks at Hall have even extended their fanciful approach to their merchandise. Take a look at this mug. On the one side it says HALL but on the other it says CRUSH On Napa Valley. I know I do…
