A Passion For Your Profession

When I first started my job as a concierge, I was lucky enough to be in San Francisco in the late 70’s, which is where the concierge profession began in America.  The person responsible for bringing the the professional hotel concierge to the USA, Tom Wolfe, is still a concierge today and presides over the desk at the famous Fairmont Hotel on Nob Hill. I owe my career to Tom, because without his vision and perseverance the world of the concierge and my role in it would have been very different. Recently Tom produced this tribute to the concierge profession. I was touched by the love that went into making it. It is his love letter to a profession that is truly unique. How lucky to have a passion, stick with it for decades and reap the rewards of your efforts on a daily basis.

So many people just slog through work, so it is a true gift when we find something we are passionate about and can create a living as well as a life.
