Taking a Bite of The Big Apple

I consider this post an addition to my personal travel blog series. It’s the place where Bill (my talented professional photographer husband) and I experience places by wandering around. I call us The Wandering Jewels, sharing the treasures we uncover along the way.

Although I have visited New York City at least 50 times and lived there for two years in my twenties, I never feel as if I have even taken a bite out of all there is to see and do. Even if I run around twelve hours a day, I have simply peeled off a bit of skin. I guess that is what makes New York City so fabulous because there is always more to uncover and discover. Each time I visit, I try and do things that I either have never done before, or have done so many years ago it feels as if I never did them. Besides the agenda items I put on my list, I leave plenty of time to discover the delight of stumbling upon the treasures and pleasures that a little bit of effort can reveal.

Here are some highlights of our latest adventure. The folder filled with what we want to do next time is already overflowing.

From way downtown to way uptown, on planes and boats and trains

Certain “Only in New York” moments just crack me up

I love the fact that everywhere you turn there are people from all corners of the globe

Even I look like an immigrant here. Except the shoes are a dead give away

New York can bring out elegance as well as a little silliness

Or just look up, stop and take in a corner, a bus sign, or a street scene

Or capture the energy and sear it into your memory

I wish there was a way to bottle it

For now I will savor the memories
